Celebrate Carnivale 2016 in true Port Douglas style at The Meridian!

2016 marks the 22nd Birthday of Carnivale celebrations in Port Douglas, and this time round it will spread out over 3 action packed days from Friday 20th May to Sunday 22nd May.

The Macrossan St Parade on the Friday commences the festivities at 5pm with a spectacular show of fireworks at 9pm. You can also expect to see some amazing performances from jugglers, stilt walkers and fire twirlers!

Watch locals and visitors alike flock to Port Douglas to celebrate the start of the tourism season. There really is something for everyone at this highly anticipated event including arts, entertainment, sports, food & wine, comedy, culture and music.

Across the 3 days there are a huge variety of events for the whole family to enjoy and participate in! This year introduces the Wonderland Spiegeltent which kicks off on the 12th of May continuing into the Carnivale weekend. The visually spectacular cirus tent will host many of the Carnivale highlight events including:

  • Cabaret inspired Circus act by Limbo
  • Comedy acts by Jimeoin
  • Concerts by the eccentric Kransky Sisters 
  • Blues singers Lloyd Spiegel and Big Daddy Wilson 
  • And much more! 

Are you a self confessed foodie? Indulge your tastebuds with the following Carnivale events:

  • Paradise on a Plate long lunch on Friday 20th May for a luxurious 4 course sizzling swizzle under the palms of Dixie Park.
  • Port on a Fork Food, Wine & Music festival on Saturday 21st of May headlined by Joe Camilleri and the Black Sorrows from 5pm at Rex Smeal Park.
  • ‘Port Douglas Fisherman’s Village Seafood & Music Festival’ on Sunday 22nd Enjoy fresh seafood straight from the back of the trawler and live music from well renowned performers including Desert Blues, Dream Boogie and more.

There’s also plenty of sporting and game events to keep the kids entertained like the Family Beach Day Party on Saturday 21st May which has something for the whole family with kite flying, sand castle building, entertainment, stalls and of course – great food!
