It’s officially December of 2019 – so where did this year go?! This only means one thing. It’s time to get ready and buckle in for the ride that is the Silly Season – it’s full of fun and exciting celebrations across Christmas and the New Year. Christmas 2019
Travellers from all across the country flock to Port Douglas each year to celebrate Christmas in the tropics, and there’s no wonder why! There’s something special about the balmy weather and buzzing atmosphere in the town that never fails to draw crowds in. As you would expect, it’s quite the opposite to a White Christmas – and we couldn’t love it more!
On Chrissy day, treat yourself to a lunch at one of our fabulous restaurants, explore the depths of the Great Barrier Reef, travel across the ferry to explore the Daintree and Cape Tribulation or hit Four Mile Beach! For something more low-key, plan a classic Aussie Christmas buffet from your Meridian apartment by stocking up on fresh (5) seafood and BBQ produce. There’s nothing better than opening presents, jumping in the pool to revitalize, and then eating until your heart’s content. What a way to spend Xmas! Air-conditioning in your Meridian apartment will be a must for Boxing Day recovery.
NYE 2019/2020
If your FNQ holiday extends into the New Year (lucky you!) – there are plenty of ways to ring in 2020 in paradise Port Douglas.
Like every year, you can catch the marvelous fireworks displays at 8:30 pm or midnight from Anzac Park or the Combined Club for best viewing. The Iron Bar, Patty’s Irish Pub, and the Court House Hotel are fantastic venues best for eating, drinking, and dancing your way into the New Year! If you want to go all out, book in quickly while there’s still time to the extraordinary Nautilus NYE degustation – there are brilliant 4 or 6-course dining options. Also, you’ll thank yourself for years to come for spending the final day of 2019 or perhaps the first day of 2020 adventuring through the astonishing Great Barrier Reef!
